G&L GUITARS BANQUET JAM

G&L guitars was gracious enough to host an open house, banquet, jam session last friday, july 18. it was held at the fullerton marriott and it's a must-attend event for me. they started out with an open house tour of the factory and a fantastic carne asada buffet for lunch. super-picker will ray did some question and answer clinics throughout the day ("are the hellecasters getting back together?" yawn...). and then we all headed over to the marriott to work out some tunes will and i do together. throughout the night various people came up to jam on their G&L's with the backup band. there was some hot blues pickers and some young upstarts who put me to shame (and brought their beloved asat's to the buffet line!). i finally resorted to my trusty gretsch (much to some dyed in the wool G&L player's chagrin) and ran thru some standards with will blazing away as only a crazy man can do. i think we broke all records for the longest version of "knockin on heaven's door". thank you G&L!

There's a future musician--he won't even put the guitar down to eat!

well...he could certainly play circles around me...but hey- white blues players are a freakin dime a dozen these days...

That's probably because the black community seems to have abandoned the blues... you aren't including Robben Ford in that dozen are you?

no way. but robben has paid up his dues backing up the legends. i guess we could say the same for clapton...but he kinda bores me.

I didn't think so. That guy is a god. I feel the same way about Clapton (bored), and I am trying to figure out why... is it because he seems to be the only one who gets 'airtime' ? Ya hear a little Thorogood (although, I kinda find him a hack these days), a couple of Stevie Ray tunes (you know which two), I dunno...

I did forget to mention Jonny Lang, and ya know, Alvin can do a bit o' the blues himself!
