FLESHTONES RULE
This past weekend the Fleshtones tore up Magnetic Fields on Altlantic street in Brooklyn. It was a pre-tour performance before they leave for France in three weeks. For the uninitiated the Fleshtones have been around since the early eighties and have always been one of New Yorks great underground bands with authentic heart and soul. They are the ultimate party band and rival the Ramones in their power chord grooves.
They have put together so many great songs like "I'm Gonna Change my Life", American Beat" ,"This House is Empty" and "Shadowline" to mention but a few of my personal favorites. They are still at it and they are better than ever.
They have just released a new album called "Beach Head" and it has some great new tracks like "Serious" and "I Want Answers".
Peter Zaremba still fronts the band with his cool and unpretentious style. Keith Streng covers all the bases on guitar and interchanges power chord grooves with smart garage pop hooks. Bill Milhizer keeps the drum beats up steady and rollling. Ken Fox is the newest member of the group and plays a super bass.
These guys made me remember when going to go see bands was fun. They keep their original spirit very much alive spreading their energy thoughout the room, moving their performance from stage to bartop and back down though the house. Yes their good vibe is contagious and yes.... we had a blast.
