SUPERMODEL SOPRANO

On Valentines Day, Christine Arand, the supermodel soprano, will perform with baritone Frano Pomponi at the Art Gallerie Icosahedron in Tribeca. Christine Arand is a fascinating character. She received a scholarship to Northwestern University where she earned degrees in both music and painting. A Fellowship to the Juilliard Opera Center brought Christine to The Juilliard School where she first came to international notice.

Christine began her professional career in Europe creating the leading role of Lise in Les Enfants Terribles by Philip Glass directed by Susan Marshall. With Glass, she toured to great successes from the Acropolis in Athens, Milan, Rome, Turino, Palermo, Lisbon, Seville, Zürich, Copenhagen, among others before returning to the United States where it had continued triumphs at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Spoleto USA, San Francisco, Los Angeles and more. The opera, the third in Glass' Cocteau Trilogy was released in 2005 on Harmonia Mundi OMM label.

She has been described as "an up-and-coming diva" by The New York Times. I was lucky enough to be in the audience for her Broadway debut as Musetta in Baz Luhrmann's highly publicized and praised production of La Bohéme at the Broadway Theatre. She followed with another featured role on Broadway as Maria in the Tony Award Winning Best Musical Revival Nine at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre. With Lincoln Center Theater, she was the famous chanteuse, Yvette Gilbert in the play, Belle Epoche, about the life and loves of Toulouse Lautrec.

Christine was selected as a finalist in the Metropolitan Opera Council Auditions and upcoming roles include Konstanze in Mozart's Abduction from the Seraglio and Liu in Puccini’s Turandot.

Now, Artists Only Records is in talks with her, regarding the recording of a solo album.
On February 14th, Christine Arand will be performing in conjunction with an art gallery reception celebrating two talented painters,
Mike Hennessy and Derric Hettinger.

According to Gerry McCarthy, President of Artists Only, he would like to merge the worlds of fashion, art and music, introducing each to works they may not ordinarily experience.

If you happen to be in New York City and in the Tribeca area on February 14, come down to the Art Gallerie Icosahedron and start your valentines day evening with a bit of passion, opera and style.
